Head of BPS Jakarta, Agus Suherman, say, with a measure of poverty through the concept of basic needs, capability of kemisikinan is seen as the inability of the economy to meet the basic needs of food.

"With this approach, can be calculated the percentage of the poor population to total population," said Agus in Jakarta, Monday, July 4, 2011.

According to Agus, BPS Jakarta uses two components to calculate the poverty line. That is, poverty lines, food and non food poverty line. So the survey was carried out against people who have an average per capita monthly expenditure below the poverty line.

Earlier, in March 2011, the population recorded was poor residents who were below the poverty line in Jakarta reached 363.420 people.

This number is greater than the number of the poor population in March 2010 which just reached 312.180 people. This increase occurs because of an increase in the number of capita a month poverty line in 2011 as well as the changing patterns of life.

The increase in the poverty line, said Agus, caused an increase in the rate of inflation of the previous year. The rate of inflation in March 2010 only reached 3,49 percent, be 5.95 per cent in March 2011.

As a result the amount of spending on any increased population Jakarta so it reached Usd 355.480 per capita per month, or at least the citizens have to spend money about Rp 11,000 per day. With the composition of the food poverty line of Rp 229.147 or 64,46 percent, and non-food poverty line of Rp 117.682 or 35,54 percent.

"From 9.6 million residents Jakarta, there were 3.75% or 363.420 people that its expenditure below the poverty line. Also the needy in Jakarta more spending money for the needs of food, rather than the needs of non food such as residence and others, "explained Agus.

Added Agus, commodity foods are very influential towards the improvement of the poverty line, including rice, kretek cigarette filters, Chicken breeds and egg races. Whereas non-commodities affecting the food poverty line increases the cost of housing and electricity, health care and education.

Therefore, Agus expects, the provincial Government of Jakarta to work even harder in lowering the level of poverty in the capital. The entire service related poverty must create breakthrough new poverty reduction program, to accompany the poverty alleviation programs that already exist.
