Alhucemas
A short distance from the port, the Penon de Alhucemas stands as a challenge with his English flag flapping in the wind. He signed and the site's history. A recent history since Al Hociema, camped atop a cliff overlooking the sea some 70 meters, was founded by the Spaniards under the name of Villa Sanjurjo that in 1926. So no architectural treasure. But in contrast, beaches, coves, inlets and headlands surrounding you will remember easily: they form one of the most beautiful natural Mediterranean coast of Morocco. Entirely devoted to the pleasures of the sea, Al Hoceima lives the seasons. Last summer, hotels and restaurants close their doors, and Al Hociema s' lulls until next spring.
English, French ... Even before the city existed, it was the islands off Al Hociema that attract, in the seventeenth century, the attention of European navigators. During the decline of the dynasty Saadian vice Admiral's Law will consider in effect, to establish a position (1661). containing a draft of Mazarin, Colbert decided to forestall the English or, failing that, to encourage the Spaniards' s install their place ... After recognition of the archipelago by the Duke Beaufort, brothers Frejus, starting Marseille, asked the king permission to establish himself in the islands Albouzemes with exclusive privilege of commercial traffic. Roland Frejus will land there in 1966, but his interview with Moulay Rachid first not having the desired results, the commercial company created for this purpose was dissolved. ... Or English? Spain, which before protested against the installation of the French under a concession which was granted in 1660 by Sharif saadien, settled down to turn in 1973. Following westward. the coastal road on 2 or 3 km, we could stop at one of the coves or sandy beaches and see a ruined house built on a rock in the middle of the ocean.
But we preferred to leave the city to the este to get to the beautiful beach Asfiha (4 Km), and discover the Penon de Alhucemas. built opposite the village club's Mediterranean, English island (no access) houses a church, some houses a garrison and a prison.
