Men Unemployed Risky Die Faster

VIVAnews -according to research conducted by Eran Shor, Professor of Sociology from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, unemployment raise the risk of premature death up to 63 percent. The conclusion was drawn after doing a survey of 20 million people in 15 countries, particularly Western countries, during the last 40 years.

Interestingly, although the health system in a number of countries already better and contribute to the low mortality rate, the correlation between unemployment and the high risk of death occurring in the rest of the countries surveyed. This research aims to find out for yourself whether there is a causal relationship between unemployment and the risk of death.

"Until recently, one big question is about the existing health conditions such as diabetes, heart problems, or bad behavior such as eating cigarettes, alcohol, or illicit drugs lead to unemployment and the risk of death," said Shor, as quoted from MedIndiaApril 7, 2011.

Interesting, said Shor, from research note that the pre-existing health conditions (prior to the survey) have no effect. This indicates that the relationship of unemployment and the death of a causal relationship.

"Possibilities, the unemployed have higher levels of stress and affect the status of the sosioekonomi someone," said Shor. "This led to a worsening of health conditions and the death rate is higher," he said.

The research also revealed that the influence of unemployment on the level of risk of death and mortality rates in men is higher than women. The number reached 78 per cent in men and only 37 per cent in women. The risk of death is quite high, especially for those aged under 50 years.
